Some stories unfold slowly, weaving through time until the moment finally feels right. Ours is exactly that kind of story—one shaped by timing, distance, growth, and ultimately, a second chance.

Where It All Started

We first met more than 25 years ago in Illinois. There was an instant connection, the kind that feels easy and familiar. We went on a few dates, shared conversations, and sensed there was something meaningful there—but life had other plans. Timing wasn’t right, and like so many unfinished stories, ours paused before it ever had the chance to begin.

Five years later, our paths crossed again. This time, we were both in relationships. Once again, timing stood in the way. We stayed in orbit of each other’s lives from afar, knowing the connection existed, but never quite aligning in the way that mattered. And so, life continued—separate journeys, different chapters, and years filled with lessons, growth, and change.

A New Chapter in a New State

Fast forward 25 years.

Life brought us both to Florida—an entirely new setting, an unexpected reunion, and the beginning of something neither of us could have scripted. When we reconnected, it felt natural. Familiar. Easy. We began as friends first, which mattered more than we realized at the time.

For Amy, Florida was a fresh start in every sense. Being new to the area and not knowing many people, DJ quickly became a steady presence—a safe place, a consistent friend, and someone she could genuinely trust. There was no pressure, no expectations—just connection, laughter, long conversations, and support during a season of transition.

At the time, Amy was in a relationship that struggled under the weight of distance. When that chapter eventually came to a close, there was space for honesty, reflection, and the realization that something real had been growing quietly all along.

A few months later, we chose each other.

Falling in Love and Finding Our Direction

Our relationship didn’t begin with grand gestures—it began with friendship, respect, and emotional safety. That foundation changed everything. We didn’t rush the story. We allowed it to unfold with intention.

Our first international trip together took us to Jamaica. That journey became more than just a vacation—it became a turning point. Somewhere between the ocean air, the shared adventures, and the quiet moments in between, we didn’t just fall in love with the destination—we fell in love with the life we were building together.

Travel revealed something important about us: we work as a team. We explore well together. We communicate, adapt, laugh, and stay grounded—even when things don’t go as planned. Those are not just travel skills; they are relationship skills. And they are the heartbeat of what we now share through Couples Compass.

Today, DJ is Amy’s best friend, her travel partner, her steady place, and what truly feels like home. What we found together isn’t just romance—it’s alignment, companionship, and a shared vision for the life we want to live.

Why We Created Couples Compass

Couples Compass was born from our belief that love, connection, and adventure are not reserved for perfect timing—they are created through courage, growth, and choosing each other every day.

We created this platform to:

  • Share real moments, not curated perfection

  • Inspire couples to explore—whether that means international travel, local getaways, or simple everyday adventures

  • Show that love can find its way back when the time is truly right

  • Encourage others to take chances on life, on connection, and on new beginnings

Our story is not about being flawless. It’s about being honest. About missed timing that eventually led to the right timing. About two people who grew separately and came back together with intention.

Couples Compass is where we document the journey—our travels, our experiences, our reflections, and the life we are building side by side.

Because sometimes, love doesn’t just happen once. Sometimes, it waits until you’re ready to find your direction.

Welcome to our journey.
